Although it improved from 44.7% in 2004 to 60% in 2015, Pakistan’s literacy rate is still low, and the country is rated 146th out of 188 in terms of human development Index (HDI). The literacy rate varies by location and is lower for women than for males. To combat the low literacy rate, government of Pakistan introduced the Ehsaas Scholarship Program in 2019. The program’s goal is to offer financial support to gifted youngsters from low-income household’s. Along with grants for books and other educational costs, the program offers full and partial scholarships. The Ehsaas Scholarship Program have benefited more than 120000 students as of 2023.

Purpose Of Ehsaas Scholarships
The Ehsaas Scholarship Program was established to help brilliant and worthy students who cannot afford to continue their studies. The curriculum is created to support students in achieving academic success and pursuing their career goals.
Scholarships are awarded in accordance with academic ability and financial needs. The program offers monthly living stipends in addition to complete tuition and other educational expenses reimbursement. Depending on the student’s academic performance, scholarships are renewed for up to four years. The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan oversees its administration.
Scholarship Award
The complete cost of educational expenses including tuition, books, and hostel accommodation is covered by the scholarship.
For undergraduate students: The scholarship amount is Rs. 100,000 per year, which includes tuition fees, accommodation expenses, and a stipend for books and other educational expenses.
For graduate students: The scholarship amount is Rs. 120,000 per year, which includes tuition fees, accommodation expenses, and a stipend for books and other educational expenses.
For PhD students: The scholarship amount is Rs. 200,000 per year, which includes tuition fees, accommodation expenses, and a stipend for books and other educational expenses.
If the student maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.5/4.0 or 3.0/5.0, the scholarships are renewable for each year of study.
Ehsaas Scholarships Eligibility Criteria
The criteria for granting Ehsaas Scholarships include academic excellence and financial necessity. The Program is need-based, and students are chosen depending on the resources and income of their families. Below is a basic criteria for scholarship
Applicant’s Family Income: The applicant’s family income should be less than or equal to the poverty threshold defined by the government of Pakistan. The poverty threshold varies by region and family size, and is updated periodically by the government.
Educational Background: The applicant must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate, graduate, or PhD program at a public sector university in Pakistan. The applicant must also meet the academic eligibility criteria set by their university.
Age Limit: The applicant must be under the age of 22 for undergraduate programs, 30 for graduate programs, and 35 for PhD programs.
